I’m a transgender woman living in the Northern Cape, I have been a sex worker for 11 years. I was using drugs and many offered me drugs instead of money. I went to a few of Sisonke’s creative spaces where I was referred to an organization for counseling and later I was taken to a rehabilitation center. I have been clean for the past 3 years and no longer take drugs in exchange for services.

I am Mme Sekade, an old woman who worked as a security guard, the salary was never enough, and I was always sick from working long hours outside at night. I attended a workshop by Sisonke at one of the sites I was assigned to. It is then that my perception on sex work and sex workers changed, I no longer judge or convince sex workers to leave the trade.
